Memorial Day 2005
First weekend at 1190 Audrey Ave, Campbell. A lot of time went in unpacking - which was perhaps more tiresome than packing prior to the move. Had first trip to the crawlspace to route phone wires from the bedroom to the libary with Jason's help on Saturday. Also , figured out how to prime the lawn mower which
gave away after one round of mowing 8inch tall lawn in the backyard. The oil level is low -perhaps it is
as simple as adding the oil to it. Assembled a couple of computer desks. Set up high speed wireless internet access. The plants in the vegetable garden are doing well -mostly out of the danger zone of slug attack.
Even Cilantro has been holding well. The bean vine is the best - about 4 feet tall already.
Baba is going to retire today. It should be a big transition - though he is not showing it. In the morning while unpacking I came across a box of letters from 1994 to 1996. It was like a time capsule going back 10 years in time. It was a moment to reflect on then hurdles and troubles - which all seem small in the retrospect. The first long drive within 4 months of starting to drive from New Jersey to Michigan in a not so new car with a
colleague - Hunmantha Rao from Rutgers. Getting directions on mapquest was a novelty in those days. I remeber my awe when the mileage on the odometer matched within 2 miles of the directions. Today we take
it for granted.
I am enjoying the fruits of Jujube tree in the garden and reminising on the short but memorable stay that Swati had a couple of weekends ago. I am going to visit Urbana to help her move to Southern California for the last year of her residency.
